Description

I use very large language decks (10s thousands of cards) where I had initially set it such that cards got introduced to me completely at random. Each of my notes have both a forward and a reverse sibling for 'native language -> target language' and 'target language -> native language' respectively. However, after doing my reviews for several months I eventually realised that, because the decks were so large, I would rarely see the opposite side of a note that I'd already reviewed. Of course, as I'm trying to both understand and produce the language, I didn't want to see my words/phrases unidirectionally like that. Now I should have had the foresight in the first place to somehow structure my introduced cards so that siblings were placed next to each other and notes themselves were randomised in the queue. But it's too late for that now. So, I built this add-on. Priority New Siblings places unseen cards with previously reviewed siblings at the top of your new cards queue. This ensures that you will always see the reverse side of previously seen notes before you're given completely new notes. The add-on orders cards primarily by lapse count of their already seen siblings to introduce the most relevant reverse cards first. unseen siblings are promoted ahead of unrelated new cards same-day siblings are still controlled by bury new siblings learning/relearning steps are unchanged review intervals are calculated independently by FSRS FSRS Helper sibling dispersal/load balancing is still able to move review due dates apart The add-on only changes the position of siblings while they are still new. Once a sibling has been introduced, Anki schedules it normally. This way, now both sides of a card get put in the review system. There is no longer a situation where one side is a mature review card while the other side is still sitting unseen collecting dust somewhere at the bottom of the new queue. Hope you like it! What it does Choose Tools → Priority New Siblings → Prioritise Unseen Siblings Now… . The add-on then: finds new cards whose note has at least one already-introduced sibling ranks them by the highest lapse count among introduced siblings uses the most recent sibling review as the second priority criterion places those unseen siblings at the front of the normal new-card queue renumbers all normal new-card positions Settings The Settings dialog supports: optional deck filtering inclusion of selected decks' subdecks skipping suspended unseen siblings Deck filtering controls which unseen siblings are moved into the priority block. Other normal new cards retain their relative order after that block. Priority order Eligible unseen siblings are sorted by: highest lapse count among introduced siblings, descending latest review timestamp among introduced siblings, descending previous new-card position, ascending card-template ordinal card ID Important notes Cards temporarily inside filtered decks are not repositioned The command creates ordinary collection changes that sync to other devices For the addon to control your study order, use Ascending position as the relevant new-card gather order Keep a collection backup before first use
