Description

Bold Expressions Anki Add-on Bold Expressions targets and automatically bolds target vocabulary inside the Sentence field of notes. It adds a Tools > Bold Expressions... menu item and a Browser > Edit > Bold Expressions... action so you can run it from the main window or directly on browser search results. Features Deck + note type targeting – select a deck (optionally including subdecks) and a note type. Field dropdowns populate automatically but remain editable for custom schemas. Morphology-aware bolding – generates conjugations, classical forms, colloquials (e.g. β€¦γ­γˆ ), しまう variants, merges built-in and custom readings, normalizes text (NFKC), and wraps matches in <b> without double-wrapping. Optional sentence space stripping – removes intra-line whitespace from the Sentence field (line breaks preserved) before matching. Dry-run preview – preview changes without saving. Shows updated, unmatched, skipped, and already-bolded counts with sample output. Browser integration – run bolding on the current browser search selection. Clear Furigana helper – select a field and clear it across matching notes after confirmation. Progress is shown and results are logged. Config + packaging workflow – defaults ship via config.json ; runtime files are packaged into a single .ankiaddon . Basic Usage Install the add-on so the Bold Expressions folder appears under addons21 . Open Tools > Bold Expressions... . Select a Deck and Note type . Set the Expression , Sentence , and optional Reading fields. Click Preview to verify changes. Click Run to apply bolding. You can also run the add-on from the browser via Browse > Edit > Bold Expressions... , which uses your saved presets and shows a summary popup. Custom Readings Custom readings allow you to define how specific expressions are read so the matcher can find more forms in your Sentence field. These are stored in Anki’s add-on config and persist across runs. Typical use case: Expression field: 全く Sentence field contains: γγ‚Œγ―γƒžγƒƒγ‚Ώγ‚―ε•ι‘Œγͺい。 Add a custom reading mapping ( 全く β†’ γƒžγƒƒγ‚Ώγ‚― ) and re-run Preview or Run. Bold Expressions will then correctly bold the word. Compatibility Designed and tested for Anki Qt6 (Anki 25.09.2). No external dependencies are required. Support
