Word Definer / Multi-Dictionary Lookup (Anki Add-on)

Select a word anywhere in Anki — Reviewer, Card Previewer, or Editor fields (Add dialog / Browse) — and press a shortcut (default Shift+Alt+W). No menu, no button click: the definer opens immediately, with one tab per configured dictionary (each tab a small embedded browser), the first dictionary shown by default.

Two display modes, switchable in-app:

Popup — frameless, appears next to your cursor, auto-dismisses the moment you click outside it or press Escape. Great for quick glances.
Window — a normal persistent window with a title bar that stays open until you close it. You can also hit "Pin as Window" inside a popup to promote it on the fly.

Install

In Anki: Tools > Add-ons > Install from file...
Choose word_definer_lookup.ankiaddon (in this folder).
Restart Anki.
Configure everything inside Anki — Tools > Configure Dictionaries... — no manual JSON editing needed.

Usage

Select a word, press Shift+Alt+W → definer opens instantly.
Right-click a selected word → Define "word" (alternative trigger).
Tools > Define Word... → type/paste a word manually.
Tools > Configure Dictionaries... → add/remove/reorder dictionaries (Name + URL, using {{str}} as the word placeholder), pick Popup vs Window mode, and set the shortcut.
Inside that same dialog: Export Settings... / Import Settings... to back up or share your setup as a .json file.
