Description

Whisper is an open source project written in c++ that allows users to use speech to text in a way that is local to computer (no Ai), yet accurately and quickly transcribes your audio without an internet connection. Disclaimer & No Liability: This add-on downloads and uses the open-source whisper.cpp engine and models. While whisper.cpp is a widely trusted open-source project, and has been historically safe, as with any open-source project, please inspect the source code and usage ahead of time if you have concerns. This add-on is provided "AS-IS" without warranties of any kind. The developer assumes no liability for any issues, data loss, or damages arising from the use of this software or its downloaded dependencies. Use at your own risk. This is an alpha of the add-on. It works well, and shows a lot off potential not only for transcription, but for voice control of the entire app in general. Though I originally wanted to just do better and easier transcription for faster card making like this: Say (and Press a hotkey like F1): The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. It already does this, really well. The next part was adding in key words (can be disabled) to make formatting go much smoother too: Say (and Press a hotkey like F1): The bold mitochondria is the CLOZE1 powerhouse END_CLOSE of the CLOSE2 cell END_CLOSE. ➑️ The mitochondria is the {{c1::powerhouse}} of the {{c2::cell::}}. I can't quite figure out the coloring on this website, but you can also say things like 'Red text', 'Highlight blue', 'Underline', 'Italicize', 'New line', 'Center text' and much, much more. I then added commands: "The capital of BOLD France END_BOLD is Paris NEXT_FIELD Extra information RED_TEXT UNDERLINE on the back goes here." ➑️ In the first field: The capital of France is Paris. Then in the next field: Extra information on the back goes here. (on the back goes here is underlined and in red) I quickly saw that it would be very easy to make suited for one person's personal preferences for the key words, so I've left that part open: any command can be disabled in the user panel, can be edited for your specific commands, and you can add custom phrases to represent multiple different action(s). I use the word "Emphasis" to do Orange highlighting with blue, bolded text to catch my eye of, "This is something important to remember". Ex: "Chediak Hagashi syndrome is caused UNDERLINE by a mutation on EMPHASIS chromosome 4 END_ALL. ➑️ Chediak Hagashi syndrome is cause _by_a_mutation on chromosome 4. (Sorry I can't get the website html to work, but underline goes all the way until the end, and chromosome 4 is underline, orange, blue, and bolded). Main Features of the addon: Accurate, Fast, offline transcription Formatting by voice: Speak commands naturally to format your cards on the fly. Say "cloze the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell" to instantly generate {{c1::the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell}}. You can also trigger bold, italics, highlights, and text colors. See the config settings for more information. By doing this, it pastes the transcription already with the formatting. Custom Voice macros: Build your own key words to associate with your own formatting. You can combine multiple actions into a single spoken phrase, or interact with other add-ons. For example: Chained Formatting: You can map the spoken phrase "emphasis" to instantly apply Bold, Blue Text, and Orange Highlight to your next sentence. Custom Keystrokes: You can map a spoken phrase to fire a custom keyboard shortcut (like Ctrl+Shift+Y) to trigger your other favorite Anki add-ons. Basic Commands. I tried a few things like "Search ____________", and it pulls up the browser and searches for your query. There are a few others like "Flip", "Again", "Hard", "Good", "Easy", or "Sync". You can see all available commands and edit their spoken phrases in the add-on settings. There are many, and I know a lot more are possible, which is why I decided to pause and get feedback on the scope. I definitely want this to be an anywhere in app 'dictation helper', and I commands may be helpful, but I didn't want to fall into 'this does everything'. Installation: Open Anki and go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Get Add-ons. Enter the code for this add-on: 1561634806 Restart Anki. Go to Tools -> Local Whisper Dictation to open the settings. Under the "Model and Engine" section, click the "Download" button to fetch the whisper engine and model to your computer. Set your preferred hotkey, click Save, and you are ready to start dictating!
