Description

🎨 Card Theme Matrix & Visual Studio 40 themes · 89 card styles · 62+ fonts · 7 card transitions — all switchable mid-review, without leaving your cards. Card Theme Matrix turns Anki's reviewer into a design system you actually control. Pick a colour theme, layer a card style over it, choose your typography, and set how cards animate between questions — then change any of it live, from a floating toolbar, without pausing your session. Built for people who spend hours a day in the reviewer: medical students (USMLE, NEET-PG, MCAT, NCLEX), language learners, STEM students, and anyone who wants Anki to look like something they enjoy opening. 🌈 40 Curated Themes (20 dark · 20 light) Dark: Dracula Neo · Cyberpunk Neon · Tokyo Night · Catppuccin Mocha · Nord Aurora · Synthwave '84 · OLED Pure Black · Obsidian Emerald · Midnight Crimson · Solarized Dark · Velvet Plum · Horizon Glow · Cobalt Blue · Matrix Terminal · Sunset Amber · Rosé Pine · Monokai Pro · Carbon Slate · Abyss Teal · Quantum Void Light: Clean Med White · Catppuccin Latte · Nord Snow · Solarized Light · Pastel Peach · Mint Clinic · Rose Quartz · Lavender Mist · Paper Sepia · Sky Breeze · Ivory Minimal · Warm Sand · Botanical Sage · Citrus Fresh · Porcelain Blue · Lilac Dream · Coral Dawn · Matcha Latte · Cotton Candy · Nordic Frost Plus a circadian scheduler that switches themes by time of day, a day/night toggle , and a per-deck theme matrix so Pharmacology can look different from Anatomy. ✨ 89 Card Aesthetic Styles A style is a separate layer from a theme . The style decides the card's shape, surface and texture; the theme decides its colours. Every style is built entirely from your active theme's palette, so all 40 themes × 89 styles combine into a coherent card rather than clashing. Cinema & Movies — instant-film Polaroid, Gotham steel, web-slinger comic panels, desert dunes, folding city, neon rain, light-cycle grid, symmetrical pastel, wasteland rust, opening crawl, tailored midnight, sepia vignette, amber fossil, biomech hull Anime & Manga — pirate chart parchment, ninja scroll, spirit-pressure slash, checkered haori, survey-corps leather, cursed energy, ruled notebook, ki blast, hazard-striped terminal, hemisphere split, comic burst, grunge horror, magical sparkle, 90s cel OS Systems — Apple liquid glass, Material You, One UI squircle, Windows Mica, sci-fi telemetry HUD, TTY console, Ubuntu, Aqua pinstripe, spatial glass, Material card Sports & Racing — F1 carbon, Grand Slam lawn, basketball streetwear, stadium turf, MotoGP speed blur, NBA hardwood, cricket pitch, medal podium, tournament chessboard Patterns & Materials — marble, walnut grain, selvedge denim, origami facets, neumorphic extrude, brutalist concrete, PCB traces, stained glass, honeycomb, claymorphism, titanium, prism glass, blueprint, dot matrix Retro & Vintage — VHS tracking, synthwave sunset grid, newsprint broadsheet, arcade pixel Nature & Seasons — sakura drift, deep ocean trench, forest canopy, glacier ice, canyon strata Science & Medical — engineering blueprint, ECG vitals monitor, histology slide, periodic tile, DNA helix Classic — clean modern, frosted glass, neon glow, flat matte, terminal CRT, aurora, saddle leather Click the ✨ button to cycle styles one at a time, or right-click it for a searchable picker. 🎬 10 Card Transitions Fade · Slide Up · Slide Down· Flip 3D · Zoom-in · Zoom-out · Blur Dissolve · Pop · None Animations run on the GPU (transform/opacity/filter only) and replay on every question, answer and next card. Three speeds (Fast / Normal / Slow). Works on any note type, including stock Basic and Cloze — not just this add-on's own. Transitions honour your operating system's "reduce motion" accessibility setting by default. If you have Windows animation effects switched off but still want transitions, there's a checkbox to override it. 🔤 62 Fonts + Importer 56+ curated Google Fonts plus 6 bundled offline fonts (including Sans Forgetica , the disfluency typeface designed to aid recall, and Cascadia Code ). Import any additional Google Font by name, or load your own .ttf / .otf . Live A− / A+ sizing during review, plus separate size settings for desktop, tablet and mobile. 🎛️ Floating Studio Toolbar A compact toolbar in the corner of the reviewer with theme cycling, style cycling, day/night toggle, font picker, size controls, highlighter toggle, transition picker, and Theme Studio. Collapses to a small pill so it never covers your cards. It's injected once per reviewer session and persists across cards — it doesn't rebuild itself on every card, so it stays responsive during long reviews. ⚡ High-Yield Keyword Highlighter Automatically highlights clinical signal words while you review — gold standard , pathognomonic , most common , drug of choice , first line — in four colour-coded categories. Add your own keywords and categories, or toggle the whole thing off with one click. 📇 Three Optional Note Types Mayhem Basic , Mayhem Cloze and Mayhem Image Occlusion ship with the add-on: Every field gets identical styling — no field is left looking unstyled Empty fields stay visible and editable on the card back , so you can click straight into a blank Explanation field and fill it in mid-review Multi-colour cloze with configurable underline styles for un-revealed blanks Image Occlusion with mask toggle, fullscreen, pinch/double-tap zoom, and a confidence rating bar Subject tag pills rendered from your Anki tags A deck migrator converts existing Basic / Cloze / Image Occlusion decks to these note types in batches, including nested subdecks, preserving text, images, audio, tags and formatting. You don't have to use them. All themes, styles, fonts and transitions work on your existing note types too. ♿ Readability Every theme is contrast-audited: body text, field labels and placeholder text all meet the WCAG AA 4.5:1 minimum on every one of the 40 palettes, and card surfaces are checked across all 89 styles so a style never darkens a light theme into unreadability. Two theme palettes were corrected during development specifically to meet this bar. 🚀 Getting Started Install and restart Anki Tools → 🎨 Card Theme Matrix → Theme Studio & Settings Pick a theme, a style, a font and a transition — the live preview updates as you go Start reviewing; use the floating toolbar to change anything without stopping Optional shortcuts (enable in Theme Studio → HUD Manager): Ctrl+Alt+T next theme · Ctrl+Alt+Shift+T previous · Ctrl+Alt+D day/night · Ctrl+Alt+S Theme Studio ℹ️ Notes Anki 2.1.50 or newer. Styling applies to the card reviewer only — your deck list, browser, editor and other add-ons are left untouched. Google Fonts require an internet connection the first time they load. The 6 bundled fonts work fully offline. On AnkiWeb, AnkiMobile and AnkiDroid the add-on itself doesn't run, so cards fall back to a baked-in copy of your chosen palette and style rather than the live engine. Card styles are original CSS designs inspired by genres and visual motifs. They are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or licensed from any studio, franchise or rights holder. Found a bug or want a theme added? Please open an issue rather than leaving it in a review — it's much easier to fix that way.
