Description

This add-on automatically reveals answers and then rates cards as "Good" using timers you specify. In addition, it can make the spacebar rate a card as "Easy" rather than "Good" when you answer quick enough. CONTEXT : Clicking buttons for rating cards distracts from studying. If you review a couple hundred cards a day, the default Anki behavior may require you to make over a 1000 microdecisions and clicks daily. The previous solution I used was the add-on Smart Spacebar. That rates cards as Again, Hard, Good, or Easy depending on how quickly you click the spacebar. It saved time and prevented microdecisions--but not clicks. If you rate most cards as Good, there's room for better automation. INSTRUCTIONS : 1. Disable the add-on Speed Focus Mode if you already have it, given it will interfere. Download this one and restart Anki. 2. On the homescreen, click the gear icon on the right side of a deck. 3. Click General. This add-on added 3 options: ”Show answer after” determines how quickly the card will automatically flip. ”Then rate Good after” gives you X additional seconds to review before the next card. ”Rate Easy if manually revealed answer before X” means if you press the spacebar within X seconds, the rating will be Easy. Don't make this smaller than the first timer, or else it will rate everything as Easy. TIPS : You can set up different timer profiles for different decks. On the top of the settings window are Options Groups--you can assign different Groups to different decks and subdecks. If any of the timers are left as 0, they're turned off--the exception is you can't only leave the middle one on, because a card needs to be flipped before it gets rated. It might bear mentioning that you can still rate cards while using this add-on. It's like driving on cruise. Most of the time you just watch, but sometimes you turn the wheel or hit the brakes. Using the spacebar is like pressing the gas to go a bit faster for a while, if the cards are more familiar. One more thing: when editing a card in the reviewer and then closing the window, you’ll now need an extra click to confirm you’re ready to review. This is to prevent cards from being reviewed while you’re working in another window. If you'd like to modify this behavior, I have some instructions commented in the bottom of the file code: Tools>Addons>View Files>-__init__. CHANGE LOG : 2020-02-29: Published. 2020-03-04: Fixed a bug with burying cards. Details commented in the code. 2020-03-10: Added the safety reset to the Browser window, preventing accidental reviews. Added feature to replace Editor with Browser, which can be enabled with instructions at bottom of code file. 2020-06-09: Tested and working on on Anki 2.26. CREDIT : Glutanimate (Aristotelis): the add-on Speed Focus Review was modified for the automated card flipping. Simcha Rimler, Liam Cooke: the add-on Automatic Scoring was modified for the Smart Spacebar functions. Joseph Yasmeh: I edited the code and wrote some new parts too. The works above were used with permission. Tested on Anki 2.1 for Mac.
