It reads the front and back of the current card, then creates explanations, examples, hints, quizzes, and other study helpers. You can save the result to a note field or show it directly on the review screen. Features Generate AI explanations from the front and back of a card Adapt to vocabulary, concepts, problem explanations, cloze cards, and Q&A cards Create practice problems, step-by-step hints, common mistake notes, quizzes, and card improvement suggestions Bulk-generate explanations for selected cards in the Browser Output in Japanese, English, or automatically match the card language Review and edit the text before sending it to the AI Optionally send images embedded in the card Sanitize generated HTML before saving or displaying it in Anki Initial Setup Install this add-on and restart Anki. Create an API key for the provider you want to use: Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic Claude. Recommended: set the API key as an environment variable before starting Anki. Gemini: GEMINI_API_KEY OpenAI: OPENAI_API_KEY Anthropic Claude: ANTHROPIC_API_KEY Open this add-on's configuration and choose the LLM provider/model if needed. Review a card and use the default hotkey g , or right-click and choose the AI explanation command. Privacy To generate explanations, this add-on sends card text, deck name, note type, and optionally card images to the selected external LLM API. API keys should preferably be configured through environment variables. The add-on configuration can also store API keys, but this stores them locally in your Anki profile in plain text. This is a significant risk on shared, backed-up, or synced computers. Use the plain-text add-on configuration only if you understand that risk. Warning AI-generated content can be incorrect. Please review generated explanations, examples, hints, and answers yourself before relying on them. API Costs Using Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic Claude APIs may incur charges depending on each provider's pricing, free tier, quota, and your usage. All API usage fees are the user's responsibility.
