Description

Turn tags into regular Anki decks, then send cards back to their original decks when you are ready. Tag Deck Bridge adds Tools → Tag Deck Bridge… , with three workflows: Create from a tag: search tags, choose a source and destination, and optionally mirror child tags as subdecks. Send cards home: restore cards to the original decks recorded when you moved them. Register existing decks: assign a return deck to cards you previously moved manually, without moving those cards immediately. In Browse , right-click one or more tags and choose Create Filtered Deck (Tag Deck Bridge)… to open Anki's native filtered-deck settings with the tag search filled in. Selected tags match any of them; parent tags include descendants. Adjust the deck name, card limit, order, and rescheduling option before choosing Build. Cancel leaves your collection unchanged. This shortcut does not automatically unsuspend cards. The regular-deck actions start with a preview of source decks, destination decks, card counts, and skipped cards. Changes support Anki's Undo. Learning progress stays with your cards Moving cards preserves review history, due dates, intervals, suspension, burial state, and FSRS data. Restoring a card keeps the progress you made while studying. Future reviews use the destination deck's options. Newly created decks inherit a shared source preset; mixed-source presets use the default and are flagged in the preview. Return addresses are stored in a compact custom-data entry on each card, so they participate in normal collection sync and backups. Other custom-data entries are preserved; cards without enough space or with conflicting metadata are skipped. Install the add-on separately on each desktop where you want its controls, and sync before switching devices. Predictable behavior Cards in filtered decks are skipped. Already tracked cards are skipped when creating new decks, preserving their saved homes. Cards you manually move elsewhere afterward are skipped during restoration. Renamed original decks are recognized by ID; missing original decks are skipped. No automatic moves run on startup, review, or sync. Empty decks are retained. For matching child tags, the deepest tag wins; equal-depth matches use alphabetical order. Each card belongs to one regular deck. The add-on cannot reconstruct where cards lived before installation. The register workflow saves the return destination you explicitly choose. Compatibility Requires Anki 26.05 or newer . Version 1.1.0 passed 31 synthetic collection and interface checks on Anki 26.05 and 26.09.2 / Qt 6 on Windows . It uses Anki's cross-platform Python/Qt APIs with no additional dependencies; macOS and Linux have not yet been independently tested. This is a desktop add-on; its decks can be studied on mobile after syncing. After installation, restart Anki and open Tools → Tag Deck Bridge… . If you previously installed the file version, disable that copy before installing the AnkiWeb version to avoid duplicate menu entries. Keep normal Anki backups.
