Description

Med Coach 0.2 β€” Learn beyond the card Choose a deck, decode unfamiliar terminology, compare similar diseases, and test your reasoning. New in 0.2 Modern dark interface organized around a student workflow. Deck picker with subdecks, daily-review or all-cards analysis, and optional search filters. Check 1–5 related difficult cards to build a study section. Generate original practice questions, explanations and comparisons inside Anki using OpenAI or Gemini with your own API key. Plain-language explanations and terminology β†’ meaning β†’ physiology tables. Side-by-side pathology comparisons: mechanisms, clues, decisive differences and exam traps. Answer questions one at a time before revealing explanations. Export/import study sections as JSON. Live YouTube results with direct watch links, channel names, publication dates and retrieval times when a YouTube Data API key is supplied. Optional recent-upload filter. Often, students understand the fundamental pathway or physiology of a disease, but its terminology is unfamiliar. Med Coach connects the language to the mechanism and compares related pathologies to help students distinguish exam answers. Getting started Restart Anki, then open Tools β†’ Med Coach β€” Daily review. Choose a deck and analyze. Check related cards, select Study checked cards, and enter a specific medical topic. Under Settings choose OpenAI or Gemini and supply that provider’s API key, then generate. An alternative Copy prompt / Import study JSON workflow lets you use an external AI chat without API access. Chat subscriptions do not automatically provide API credits. Video discovery A YouTube Data API v3 key enables direct video results retrieved at search time. Without one, the add-on provides an explicitly labeled YouTube search-page link; the recent-upload filter is not applied to that fallback. Search relevance and recent publication do not establish medical accuracy. FSRS and learning progress Ranks the top 20 eligible cards using current FSRS difficulty. Subject trends compare recent and previous 14-day recall. Use subject::Cardiology-style tags for grouping. The audit is advisory: it does not change scheduling, replace FSRS, or measure exam readiness. Historical-day reports use current card memory states. Privacy and limitations Local analysis sends nothing online. Clicking Generate sends the edited topic and study text to the selected AI provider and may incur API charges. Keys remain in session memory. Remove private patient information first. OpenAI requests use store:false; each provider’s own data policies still apply. AI-authored material is an unverified educational draft, not official USMLE/NBME content or medical advice. Verify clinical claims with trusted course references. Results are session-only unless exported. Beta for Anki 24.11+ with Qt6. Twenty automated tests pass, plus an offscreen smoke test using a real Anki 24.11 collection and Qt widgets. A student-perspective subagent reviewed the workflow twice. Authenticated provider calls and a full interactive Anki session remain unverified. No external runtime dependencies beyond Anki. Detailed setup and methodology are included in README.md.
