Description

Anki's built-in text/CSV importer splits notes strictly by line and lets you choose a fixed field separator (Tab, Comma, Semicolon, Pipe). That doesn't work well if your source text has entries that span multiple lines β€” for example, dictionary/idiom notes with an example sentence, a note, and a source link all under one entry. This add-on adds a simple alternative importer: Tools β†’ 2-Line-Break Importer... How it works: Your text file is split into notes wherever there is a blank line (two or more line breaks in a row). Everything between two blank lines β€” even if it spans several single-line-broken lines β€” is kept together as one note, placed entirely in the note's first field. Line breaks inside that block are converted to so the formatting is preserved. The note's second field is left empty. You choose the target deck and note type before importing. Imported notes are tagged 2linebreak-import so you can easily find or undo them. Example Input text: Carry coal to Newcastle Doing something that's completely unnecessary. You are running the sprinkler system when it's raining? That's like carrying coal to Newcastle. It came back to haunt me A bad decision you made earlier now has consequences. Result: 2 notes are created β€” each multi-line block becomes a single note with all its lines together in the first field, and the second field empty. Why not just use the built-in importer's Field Separator option? Anki's Import screen is a built-in web page and its delimiter list is fixed inside Anki itself β€” add-ons can't add a new option to that specific dropdown. This add-on instead provides its own menu entry with the exact splitting behavior described above. Notes Works with .txt files (UTF-8 or UTF-8 with BOM). Requires Anki 2.1.50+ (uses the modern Collection.add_note API). Free and open, no external dependencies.
