Description

Anki-GPT adds seamless one-click AI explanations directly inside the Anki reviewer. Click the small GPT button, a highlighted term, or your chosen keyboard/remote shortcut to understand a card without copying it into another app. Update 0.3.0: This is the largest Anki-GPT update so far. It adds in-review follow-up questions, concealed recall quizzes, missed-recall rescue explanations, adaptive tutoring from your local feedback and Anki review outcomes, front/back explanation targeting, a draggable reviewer panel, and a cleaner hosted-first setup. Text and image-card reliability were also hardened. Demo: If the demo GIF does not display, open it here: https://anki-gpt-api.ankigpt.workers.dev/assets/ankigpt-demo.gif I am a medical student, and I made this because I kept wanting a faster way to ask AI, "Can you explain this card simply?" without copying the card into another app and breaking my Anki flow. I am building it for everyone who learns through Anki: medicine, MCAT/premed, languages, law, programming, math, and other card-heavy subjects. What it does: Explains the current card in Simple, Exam, or Deep mode. Lets you ask your own follow-up question inside the reviewer. Creates a concealed quick quiz, lets you self-grade recall, and gives a simpler rescue explanation after a miss. Adapts future explanations using feedback and review outcomes stored locally on your computer. Targets the front, back, or automatically selected side of a card. Opens in a draggable, resizable panel that stays inside your review flow. Works across medicine, MCAT/premed, language learning, law, programming, engineering, math, chemistry, biology, business, and humanities. Saves explanations per card and mode so repeated views open instantly. Supports text cards and image-heavy/image-only cards. Works with a customizable keyboard shortcut, including keys sent by many Anki remotes. Lets invited testers redeem a tester pass. Includes a hosted trial: 75 free hosted explanations. After the trial, Anki-GPT has optional supporter access: Monthly Supporter: $3/month Annual Supporter: $24/year, the better deal Supporter access helps cover the protected AI backend and server costs, so users do not have to bring or manage their own API keys. Saved explanations remain available locally and do not spend another hosted use. Shortcut: Default: Ctrl+Shift+G. You can change this in Tools > Anki-GPT: Settings, including to a key sent by an Anki remote. Privacy and usage notes: Anki-GPT sends the current card text, selected mode, domain, and attached card images to the hosted Anki-GPT backend when you request an explanation. Do not use it with patient identifiers, PHI, private client data, exams you are not allowed to share, or proprietary material. Cached explanations are stored locally on your computer for faster repeat views. Cached repeat views do not spend another hosted explanation. AI explanations can be wrong. Use Anki-GPT as a study aid and verify high-stakes facts with trusted sources. Support: Use the AnkiWeb Contact Author button for bugs, compatibility issues, and feedback.
