README

Overlord Focus

Connect Anki to Overlord β€” the AI accountability partner that can text you, call you, and even charge your card when you skip your daily reviews. πŸ”₯

Overlord Focus is an Anki add-on that links your studying to Overlord, an AI accountability app. Each day you commit a goal β€” focused minutes or card reviews β€” and the add-on reports your progress honestly: when you start a session, when you finish, when you bail, and the moment you hit your goal. Miss it, and Overlord can follow up the way only Overlord does. πŸ’Έ

Overlord is built by a friend of mine β€” go check them out at https://overlord.app/. πŸ™Œ

This is an independent, community-made integration. Not officially affiliated with Overlord or IFTTT.

Features

  • Commit a daily goal in focused minutes or card reviews, with an optional dollar stake and a lock so you can't quietly ease it later in the day.
  • Focus sessions β€” Pomodoro-style work/break blocks. A session fails if you stop answering cards, so logged minutes are real, active study.
  • Quality-aware streaks β€” a goal-met streak plus a "strong" streak counting days you rated yourself focused rather than scattered.
  • Activity heatmap and an 8-week focus-minutes trend.
  • Honest reporting β€” raising your goal is celebrated, easing it is logged (not hidden).
  • Low-noise nudges β€” adaptive goal suggestion, recovery prompt after a broken streak, close-the-ring reminder, weekly digest, and an optional rushing/retention (Again-rate) flag.
  • Inline toolbar readout of your streak and today's progress.
  • Collapsible analytics drawer so insights stay out of the way until you want them.

The review count mirrors Anki's own "studied X cards today" statistic for your day cutoff β€” it follows Anki, not a separate tally.

Requirements

  • Anki (recent 2.1.x / current releases; the add-on uses the Qt5/Qt6 compatibility layer).
  • An Overlord account.
  • An IFTTT account on a plan that includes Webhooks (IFTTT Pro).

Install

From AnkiWeb (recommended): in Anki, go to Tools β†’ Add-ons β†’ Get Add-ons and paste the code 1189727298, then restart Anki.

Manually: download the latest .ankiaddon from Releases, then in Anki: Tools β†’ Add-ons β†’ Install from file.

Setup (about two minutes, one time)

A first-run wizard walks you through this; you can re-open it any time from Tools β†’ Overlord: Setup guide.

  1. In IFTTT, create an applet: If Webhooks β†’ Receive a web request (event name anki_overlord), Then your Overlord Send a message action with the body set to exactly {{Value1}}.
  2. Copy your IFTTT Webhooks key from https://ifttt.com/maker_webhooks/settings (the part of the URL after use/).
  3. In Anki, open Overlord Focus β†’ gear icon β†’ paste the key, or paste it in the setup wizard and hit Send test message to confirm.

If something doesn't connect, the wizard has a built-in Common Problems reference.

Privacy

Nothing leaves your computer except the short status messages you send to your own IFTTT applet, which forwards them to your own Overlord chat. No accounts, no analytics, no data collection by the add-on. Your IFTTT key is stored locally in the add-on's config.

Contributing & bugs

Issues and pull requests welcome. When reporting a bug, please include your Anki version (Help β†’ About β†’ Copy Debug Info) and a screenshot if it's visual.

Roadmap

Planned and under consideration (no promises on timing β€” this is a side project):

  • [ ] Native Overlord integration (skip the IFTTT webhook step)
  • [ ] Richer Overlord signals β€” distinct events for goal met / missed / not-yet-started, so you can wire them to Overlord actions like app unblocking, deadline calls, or partner notifications
  • [ ] "Unlock on completion" pattern β€” fire a clean "goal met" trigger so Overlord can keep distracting apps blocked until your reviews are done
  • [ ] Per-deck goals instead of one global daily target
  • [ ] Configurable nudge timing and quiet hours
  • [ ] Optional weekly summary export
