README

Cloze-TTS-Input-mod-Enhanced-Cloze

A modification of the "Enhanced Cloze" add-on that adds input and voice-over capabilities using TTS.

First, read everything on the add-on page "Enhanced Cloze (for Anki 2.1)"

Let me say right away that the addon was only tested on Anki version 25.09.4 QT6 on Windows 10, so it should work on newer systems as well. It was tested on the ankiuser.net website and in the AnkiDroid app (making it suitable for that would be a huge waste of time). Display was also tested in both light and dark themes.

<img width="480" alt="1" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/0450dda2-f68e-4e22-86d1-eb127d1e2565" />

You'll be shown a text with "close" fields for entering text (click in the middle) or opening it (click on the edges). A title or number may be displayed at the top to make it clear what you're studying. If a link to a source is provided, clicking on the title will open the website or PDF file on the relevant page. To avoid distractions from studying, the title and information below are grayed out. "Note" and other fields appear below to inform you that turning the card over will take you to that information.

The buttons at the very bottom serve the following purposes: Read the entire test or a marked section of the text aloud at a set speed and in a set TTS language; enable or disable TTS; clear all input fields; enable or disable text input mode; and close all "close" fields (so you can retest your knowledge).

Each input field has a button that allows you to quickly clear the field (type or speak again).

<img width="480" alt="2" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/292db52f-bd74-4510-8750-94daedb55782" />

The image above shows that text has been entered into one field, and it's green with a green border, indicating it's completely correct. In another field, purple indicates that the text was entered using the hint (press the space bar), and then the red characters indicate that they're incorrect and need to be corrected. In the third field, arrows indicate that clicking on these areas will expand the field to the same size as the field below. This third field is being entered correctly, so it's black for now.

Important! It's important to use the spacebar hint correctly. Before you press the spacebar, try to remember what character might be there. Even if you don't know the whole word, don't rush to press the spacebar; instead, press it slowly and try to guess. By doing this, you're essentially using the same principle as in the "cloze" type, but for each character. This will help you memorize the text faster.

The image above shows that if you prefer a particular section of text, a floating panel appears with buttons where you can speak the text, copy it, translate it, search for it in Google, use Google's AI as a translator, and close the panel. This panel is very useful for language learning, as it's often important to speak a text section by section and get a translation.

The settings for this add-on can be found in the Anki program menu: «Tools -> Cloze TTS-Input -> Config».

<img width="480" alt="4" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/10e36dde-54fa-486d-ac02-1796f9ea3bf4" />

This add-on's settings are located in a separate tab. You can disable the floating toolbar if it bothers you. Disabling TTS and text input is more useful in AnkiDroid, as it only remembers settings for the current session (in Anki itself and on the website, your preferences are remembered for the current device).

This add-on can be similar to the standard "Enhanced Cloze" at any time, but if a particular map requires careful text entry, it can be quickly toggled using the buttons below. Opening a "Cloze" field is only announced if TTS is enabled. If both are disabled, only the "Hide all" button remains available, which is useful when there are many fields or when you're using AnkiDroid and therefore can't access keyboard hotkeys.

They asked to display the text in the center.

<img width="1027" height="255" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/812f2854-e205-4fa4-968e-105cba2c367e" />

However, if there's more text after that, everything will be left-aligned.

<img width="1007" height="320" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/ed0dd894-79a0-41f7-bf79-5cbc76486887" />

The card width is limited to 640 pixels. This is done for ease of reading on very wide screens. You can change this parameter in CSS, like others:

.card {
    --bg-card: #bfbfbf;
    --bg-card-box: #effff9;
    --bg-card-content: white;
    --bg-controls: #9d9d9d;
    --color-font: black;
    --card-box-max-width: 640px; /* maximum card width */

The card will now have a hint indicating which side it is. The back side is also circled to make sure you don't forget.

<img width="996" height="297" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/144499dc-cc92-45f7-bff1-5598cd66f0c2" />

Some useful information about the card will be displayed at the top center in Anki and Ankidroid (but not on ankiuser.net).

The front of the card will no longer display information fields; everything will be displayed on the back.

If an image is hidden, it can be revealed like text. Large images may display a button allowing you to enlarge the image (maximum 1920 pixels).

<img width="980" height="813" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/d0e85633-945b-4233-9d7b-95ab800ee067" />

A new "tts↤" button has been added that will play backwards with repeats. This means it will repeat the last word twice, then the next two words twice, and so on (for a total of five words). If there are many words, it may repeat two or even three words at a time. Pimsleur has a similar method, and there's an interesting add-on that helps with practicing and editing audio using the same method ( link: )

A new "[🔇]" button has been added, which is usually disabled at the beginning because it's rarely needed. It also allows you to announce the field when closing it.

When creating or updating a card type, a 0.5-second silent file will be saved: "_05s.mp3." This file is necessary to both pause the card at the beginning (the Bluetooth headphone signal delay is typically 0.3 seconds) and to allow the ability to pause any sounds on the card by pressing the "⏹" button.

Some button names have been shortened to fit onto the Android screen for greater convenience.

They finally asked to move the AI settings to a separate tab. This is for those who want to customize things.

<img width="779" height="779" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/79a59379-3113-4ad5-b060-5e0b9a40ab37" />

Fixed a bug with updating fields.

ATTENTION!

If you previously installed this addon, then go to the menu "Tools" -> "Cloze TTS-Input" and click on the "Reset" item

If a card freezes, duplicates may appear later. So either check the number of cards in your deck or simply periodically click "Tools" -> "Check Database"

If you use sounds in the "Content" field, the autoplay will repeat three times (this cannot be changed at this time). If you don't want the sound to repeat three times, place the sound files in the "Front Extra" field (the field is shown below).
