You just have nowhere to write it down. CardNotes gives you a sticky note on the back of every card. 📝 CardNotes gives Anki the private margin notes it's missing. 📝 Write what you keep getting wrong, in your own words — your card content, tags and scheduling are never touched. 💬 A small speech bubble appears while reviewing, so you spot an annotated card before you even answer it. 👀 Hover the bubble to read your note without opening anything. ⌨️ One key to write: press c mid-review, or right-click the card, or use the More button. 🔎 Search your annotations from Tools and jump straight to the matching cards in the browser. 📋 Turn on the Annotation column in the browser to read all your notes at a glance. 💾 Export them to a file and import them on another computer, so they're yours to keep. 🌍 English and Spanish, picked automatically from your Anki language. HOW TO USE While reviewing, press c (or right-click the card → Annotation for this card… ). Type your note and press Save — Ctrl+Enter saves and closes in one go. The bubble now appears on that card; click it any time to read or edit. Everything else lives under Tools → CardNotes : search, export, import, clean up. SETTINGS There are none, on purpose — it works the same from the moment you install it, so the Config button in Tools → Add-ons stays greyed out. The extras are under Tools → CardNotes . YOUR DATA Nothing is ever written to your collection. Annotations live in the add-on's own folder, the one Anki preserves across updates, and are written safely with a backup copy kept alongside. They stay on this computer — they do not travel with AnkiWeb sync — so use Tools → CardNotes → Export if you study on more than one machine. Uninstalling the add-on removes them with it. COMPATIBILITY Built and checked against Anki 25.09. Tested on Windows only so far — reports from macOS and Linux are very welcome. CHANGELOG v1.0.0 — 2026-07-14 — Initial release.
