Description

Edit: Please don't use this one. Please use the one at https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/935264945 I only added this because Luo Li Yan somehow managed to remove his or her version from here for months and people were asking for it. He or she is back and so let's all rally behind the old one. I'm leaving this up so I don't break anything for anyone, but please, let's upvote the other version and get people using it. AND more importantly, get some pull requests into the other version! (Also, please don't be a jerk and downvote! Let's all be nice!) How? I forked this because luoliyan removed it from the add-on page months ago. The people want it back. Here, it's back. Since luoliyan seems to have disappeared, I'll gladly accept pull requests and maintain it. Make Incremental Reading Great Again. What is it? Plagiarized and reworded from SuperMemo's website: "What is incremental reading? "Incremental reading is a learning technique that makes it possible to read thousands of articles at the same time without getting lost. Incremental reading begins with importing articles from electronic sources, e.g. the Internet. The student then extracts the most important fragments of individual articles for further review. Extracted fragments are then converted into questions and answers. These in turn become subject to systematic review and repetition that maximizes the long-term recall of the processed texts." How Do I Use It 1. Create a new IR note with an article you want to study (the easiest way to do this is to import a webpage, with Alt+3) 2. Set up a shortcut for creating regular Anki cards from IR cards (press Alt+1, or go to the menu, then go to the Quick Keys tab) 3. Review the IR card that was created, and extract any text you find interesting (by selecting the text and pressing x) 4. Choose Soon or Later when you want to move to the next card (which will be a portion of text you extracted) 5. Whenever you want to create a regular Anki note, simply select the desired text and use the shortcut you created earlier Other Things You Can Do The main things this add-on allows you to do: Import content from web feeds (RSS/Atom), webpages, or Pocket Extract selected text into a new card by pressing x Highlight selected text by pressing h Remove selected text by pressing z Undo changes to the text by pressing u Apply rich text formatting while reading Create custom shortcuts to quickly add cards Maintain scroll position and zoom on a per-card basis Rearrange cards in the built-in organiser Control the scheduling of incremental reading cards Limit the width of cards (useful on large screens) Import single webpages (Alt+3) Import web feeds (Alt+4) Import Pocket articles (Alt+5) Apply bold, italics, underline or strikethrough (Ctrl+B, I, U, or S) Toggle formatting on and off (Ctrl+Shift+O) Choose maximum width of cards (see options: Alt+1) Control initial scheduling of extracts (see options: Alt+1) Remove unwanted text from note with a single key-press (z) Multi-level undo, for reverting text changes (u) New options to control how text is extracted: Open the full note editor for each extraction (slow), or simply a title entry box (fast) Extract selected text as HTML (retain color and formatting) or plain text (remove all formatting) Choose a destination deck for extracts New options for several aspects of zoom and scroll functionality: Zoom Step (the amount that magnification changes when zooming in or out) General Zoom (the zoom level for the deck browser and overview screens) Line Step (the amount the page moves up or down when the Up or Down direction keys are used) Page Step (same as above, but with the Page Up and Page Down keys) Both the background color and text color used for highlighting can be customized A drop-down list of available colors is provided A preview is now displayed when selecting highlight colors The colors applied to text extracted with x can now be set independently A list of all existing Quick Keys is now shown, to allow easy modification Unwanted Quick Keys can be easily deleted A plain text extraction option has also been added All options have been consolidated into a single tabbed dialog Support If you have trouble running or using this add-on, please use the GitHub issue tracker . License “Incremental Reading Extension” is based on “Incremental Reading” by Tiago Barroso (tmbb). There is no license specified for any of the add-ons; Tiago agreed to add a license, saying also “You can consider all my addons released with this license https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISC_license , copyright to Tiago Barroso.” in the message that was here. Liumoshigi or whatever his name is said "Consider my changes to these 2 add-ons multi-licensed under the same ISC license, GNU LGPL v3+, GNU GPL v3+ and GNU AGPL v3+." This sounds like a mess. It seems like we should just pick one license, but L/A/GPL all seem roughly compatible. I hate license messes, but I guess we're stuck copylefting this one in this way. Future I'm still learning how to use this add-on. I keep buying old versions of SuperMemo to see how it works, but I run on a Mac (and sometimes other Unix-like OSes) and not Windows, so SuperMemo doesn't quite float my boat for long enough to make this all work. As I need things, I will try to add those features and share them. If *you* need something, roll up your sleeves and take a whack at adding to the code. Submit a pull request. If you *don't* know how to do those things and *don't* know Python, rejoice in the fact that neither do I. Why is it Version 5? I heard there was a version 3 and a version 4. We get 5.
