Description

NBOME Pearl Injector adds COMLEX-focused automation to AnKing Step 1 / 2 / 3 v12 cards. Run bulk Unsuspend and optional Forget reset-to-New actions on matched cards, then optionally add concise, AI-generated NBOME pearls in the same pass. Target cards using UWorld , COMBANK , or AMBOSS question IDs, or run a secondary pass across Due + New Cards for all Step 1 / 2 / 3 v12 tags together. NBOME Pearl Injector (v1.0.26) A Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) add-on designed for osteopathic medical students. It uses Gemini 2.5 Flash to add concise, high-yield NBOME/COMLEX pearls to AnKing cards. Providing your own API key is what keeps the add-on free: there is no subscription, bundled paid API, or API fee paid to the developer. Your key is stored in your local Anki add-on configuration and requests are sent directly to Google. Google controls its own free-tier quotas, billing eligibility, and possible usage charges. No API key is required for scheduler-only workflows. You can use Unsuspend and Forget without generating pearls. Why This Is Different Level-aware pearls: Auto mode matches pearl framing to the exam. For Question IDs, that follows the selected track: Step 1 β†’ Level 1, Step 2 β†’ Level 2, and Step 3 β†’ Level 3. For Due + New Cards, Auto infers the level on each note from its highest matching Step 1 / 2 / 3 v12 tag. Batch Unsuspend + Reset: run scheduler-only workflows in bulk without making Gemini requests. Multi-Qbank targeting: match UWorld, COMBANK, or AMBOSS question IDs under the corresponding AnKing tag family. COMLEX-aware UWorld matching: Step 1 / 2 searches both UWorld Step and COMLEX tag paths. Step 3 supports numeric IDs, UWSA blocks, and CCS cases. Due + New Cards secondary pass: searches Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 v12 together so mixed queues and newly unsuspended New cards are not missed because a different track was selected for Question ID matching. Duplicate-safe Replace mode: update an existing add-on pearl or append a first pearl when none exists, without overwriting unrelated field content. Abort long runs: use Abort or Esc to stop after the current request while preserving notes already saved. Optional hourly auto-sync: sync with AnkiWeb every 60 minutes while Anki is open. Transient Gemini retry handling: temporary high-demand, rate-limit, and supported server errors receive up to three total attempts. Core Features Question IDs: paste UWorld, COMBANK, or AMBOSS IDs and run pearls and/or scheduler actions on matching notes. Due + New Cards: searches (is:due OR is:new) -is:suspended across all AnKing Step 1 / 2 / 3 v12 tags. The deck/track dropdown applies to Question IDs only. Track support: AnKing Step 1 / Step 2 / Step 3 v12, Custom prefix, and Legacy wildcard modes for Question ID matching. NBOME pearl level: use Auto or manually select Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3. Unsuspend: activate suspended cards belonging to matched notes. Forget reset: reset only suspended matched cards to New. Non-suspended cards are protected. Due + New safety: Forget is unavailable in Due + New Cards mode. Local safety cap: default limit of 250 successful Gemini pearl generations per local calendar day. This is a configurable add-on safeguard, not a guarantee of Google’s current quota. QID match reporting: see how many unique pasted IDs matched and which IDs were not found. Transparent Due + New reporting: results show the all-track scope, exact Anki search, and matched-note count. Pre-Gemini skips are separated into existing add-on pearls, legacy/manual pearl text, and partial/damaged marker comments. Optional manual review: unusually empty or excessively long outputs can be queued for review with the source card shown for comparison. What's New in v1.0.26 All-track Due + New: the secondary pass now searches Step 1 / 2 / 3 v12 together instead of the selected Question ID track. Per-note Auto level: with Auto selected, each Due + New note uses its highest matching AnKing track (Step 3, then Step 2, then Step 1). Clearer targeting: Due + New results show the all-track scope, exact Anki search, and matched-note count. Clearer skip reasons: notes skipped before Gemini are reported separately as existing add-on pearls, legacy/manual pearl text, or partial/damaged marker comments. What Shipped in v1.0.24 60-minute auto-sync: the optional interval changed from 30 to 60 minutes. Existing checked preferences carry forward automatically. Auto-sync reliability fix: corrected a compatibility issue that could silently prevent scheduled sync attempts on newer Anki versions. Visible sync status: Config now displays the last attempt, verified successful sync, and most recent issue. Smarter deferrals: if Anki is reviewing, busy, or syncing media, the add-on waits one minute and tries again. No server-error retry loop: genuine AnkiWeb failures do not trigger repeated one-minute attempts or popup floods. Shutdown protection: pending add-on timers cannot initiate another sync after Anki begins closing. What Shipped in v1.0.22 Due + New Cards workflow: expanded the secondary pass beyond due cards to include unsuspended New cards. COMLEX Level 3 guidance: added next-best-step, disposition, chronic disease, patient safety, prescribing safety, applied biostatistics, and practical office/hospital OMT framing. Automatic level selection: the selected track determines Level 1, 2, or 3 unless manually overridden. Step 3 UWorld matching: supports numeric IDs, UWSA1 -style assessment blocks, and Case3 or CCS::Case3 . COMBANK and AMBOSS support: added Qbank-specific matching and saved Qbank selection. Suggested AMBOSS Workflow In AMBOSS Qbank, use Get Anki Cards and copy the generated Anki search. Paste the search into Anki Browse and unsuspend the desired cards. Run this add-on using Due + New Cards (Unsuspended) to add pearls to cards entering your study load across Step 1 / 2 / 3 v12. Alternatively, choose AMBOSS under Qbank tags and paste AMBOSS question IDs directly. Setup Get a Gemini API key from Google AI Studio . In Anki, open Tools β†’ Add-ons β†’ NBOME Pearl Injector β†’ Config. Paste your API key and configure your target field and local daily safety cap. Open Tools β†’ Inject NBOME Pearls (UWorld IDs). Choose Target Source and NBOME pearl level. For Question IDs, also select a deck/track and Qbank family. Due + New Cards searches Step 1 / 2 / 3 v12 together and does not use the track dropdown.
