Description

This plugin was made for students, researchers, and anyone who studies from computer notes. Whether you use plain text files, or any markdown-based system, Anki Notes Generator reads your notes and automatically creates high-quality Anki flashcards using AI. Instead of spending hours manually writing flashcards, you select your notes, click one button, and the plugin generates accurate, well-formatted cards (Basic and Cloze) that respect the original source material β€” no hallucinated content, no external knowledge added. How It Works 1. Universal File Support Point the plugin at any folder on your computer. It reads .md , .txt , and .markdown files, extracts frontmatter metadata (titles, subjects, tags), and organizes everything into a clean, searchable list. Optimized for Obsidian vaults but works perfectly with any folder structure. 2. AI-Powered Card Generation (Ollama) The plugin connects to Ollama β€” a free, local AI runtime β€” to generate flashcards. It supports both cloud models (like gemini-3-flash-preview:cloud which is the default model used in the plugin) and local models. The built-in prompts are carefully engineered to: Stay strictly within the source material (no hallucinations) Create self-contained cards with minimal added context Format math with MathJax ( \(...\) and \[...\] ) Format chemistry with \ce{...} Automatically tag cards by subject 3. Two Card Types Basic (Question β†’ Answer): Great for definitions, facts, and concepts. Cloze (Fill-in-the-blank): Perfect for equations, dates, and key terms. Uses proper {{c1::...}} Anki syntax with optional hints. 4. Smart Duplicate Detection Before adding any card, the plugin checks if a similar card already exists in your collection. Duplicate cards are automatically skipped, so you can safely re-generate from updated notes without polluting your deck. 5. Auto-Tag & Subject Detection Cards are automatically tagged based on the note's subject (detected from frontmatter metadata or parent folder name). You can configure a custom tag prefix and enable/disable auto-tagging from settings. 6. One-Click Ollama Setup If Ollama isn't installed on your system, the plugin detects this and shows an "Install Ollama" button. Clicking it silently downloads and installs Ollama in the background β€” no popups, no browser, no manual setup. A progress bar tracks the download, and the default model is pulled automatically. 7. Custom Prompts Power users can fully customize the Basic and Cloze generation prompts from the Prompts tab. The plugin uses {title} , {subject} , {content} , and {tags} placeholders that are automatically filled in for each note. 8. Bilingual Interface The entire UI is available in English and Italian , switchable from the top bar. All labels, buttons, tooltips, help texts, and error messages are fully translated. Important Compatibility Notes Works with the latest Anki updates (Versions 23.xx, 24.xx, and 25.xx) and the modern Qt6 framework. Requires Ollama installed on your system (the plugin can install it for you).
