Description

Special features for learning Japanese: New note types designed for inputting Japanese text After you type in a word or phrase into the Expression field and hit tab, Anki will automatically generate furigana for you. A new menu item to view statistics about your deck, such as which Jouyou kanji have been seen and how many kanji of a certain grade level have been learnt. A lookup menu to quickly search for the selected text or field in ALC and Edict. NOTE: The reading generation is a timesaving device. Most of the time it will get the reading right, but it is not perfect. After the reading has been generated, you'll need to read the generated text and make any necessary corrections. To use this add-on: Install it, and restart Anki Click "Add" in the main window Click the type button on the top left When a new window appears, click Manage When a new window appears, click Add Select the Japanese note type you'd like to use, and then close the extra windows. Type kanji into the Expression field, then hit tab to change to another field, and the Reading field will be automatically populated. Furigana will be shown in brackets while editing, and shown above the text during review. If you're importing in bulk, you'll need to use Edit>Regenerate Readings in the Browse screen after the import. This add-on provides three note types: Japanese (recognition): will present a Japanese expression for the question, and show you the reading and meaning on the back Japanese (recognition&recall): in addition to the first card, it will also present a card that shows you the meaning and requires you to remember the expression and reading. Japanese (optional recall): will always add recognition, and add a recall card too if you put any text in the "Add Recall" field Anki can display the furigana in the Reading field in a number of ways. To customize the way it is displayed, click "Cards" while adding or editing a note. In the question or answer template, the following options are available: Show the kana above the kanji: {{furigana:Reading}} Show only the kanji: {{kanji:Reading}} Show only the kana: {{kana:Reading}} To use reading generation with your own note types: Ensure you have two fields named exactly Expression and Reading. Ensure the note type contains "Japanese" in its name, eg "My Textbook Japanese" When adding cards, input kanji into the Expression field and hit tab to have the Reading field populated. To show furigana with your own note types: You need a directive like "{{furigana:Reading}}" in your card templates. The Reading field must be formatted in a special way with brackets. After every word should come the reading in brackets, followed by a space. It is not intended to be entered in manually; it is intended to be automatically generated as described in the above section. Windows users: If you're receiving errors about mecab, you may need to add an exception to your antivirus program for mecab.exe If you receive a message about non-Latin text, it is because the reading support does not work when your Windows login name contains characters from other languages. If you create a new Windows login using A-Z characters, or rename your existing login folder (for advanced users only!), it should resolve the problem. Linux users: This add-on is built for 64 bit Linux systems. If you are on a 32 bit machine, you will need to find a copy of kakasi and mecab that works on your machine, and then put them in the support folder inside this add-on's folder. Mac users: If you're on an M1/M2 Mac, Rosetta must be installed on your system. If you're using Anki 2.1 on a 32 bit Mac, you will need to use the legacy version of this add-on instead: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/763024158 Update 2022-03-14: Fix crash on some systems when showing kanji stats. Updated 2012-09-19: You can now select cards in the browser and use the "Bulk-add Readings" menu item to generate readings all at once, like in the old version of this add-on. Updated 2012-04-12: New version for Anki 2. Support files for Windows, OSX and Linux are bundled with the plugin now, so there is no need to install extra software. Bulk reading generation is not yet implemented.
